New York, NY – The NCAA today announced the names of 132 NCAA female student athletes who have received Woman of the Year recognition from their conferences and receiving this honor from the CUNY Athletic Conference is Hunter’s Catherine Alves.

New York, NY – Seniors Catherine Alves and Brian Scher were honored at the 23rd Annual Michael Steuerman City University of New York Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner by being named the 2009 Male & Female Senior College Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

New York, NY – Senior second baseman Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) has been named the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Year as selected by the head coaches and announced by the conference office. Also earning a major postseason award is head coach Cagla Boz who is named the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Flushing, NY – After falling to Staten Island in their first game of the day, 6-5, the Hawks fought back and defeated Baruch in the elimination game 3-0, but weren’t able to get past Staten Island who took the sixth game of the CUNYAC double-elimination tournament 4-2 to clinch the 2009 Softball Championship on Saturday afternoon at Queens College in Flushing, NY.

Flushing, NY – Sophomore short stop Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) kept the Hawks in the winners bracket with a three-run homer to left field in the bottom of the sixth innings, giving Hunter an 8-0 victory over the fourth-seeded John Jay College in the first day of the double-elimination championship tournament hosted at Queens College in Flushing, NY.

Bronx, NY – Senior second baseman Catherine Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) opened up the first inning with a single and then was brought home by sophomore short stop Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) on a sacrifice fly two batters later to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead that would eventually turn into a 4-3 victory over FDU-Florham in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Murphy Field on the campus of Fordham University.

Softball | 04.25.2009
Staten Island, NY – Senior outfielder Jennifer Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) came up clutch in the first innings, with a two-run double to right-center field to give the Hawks a two run lead and the eventual victory to clinch the program’s 14th regular season championship and the ever important top seed heading into next week’s Championship Tournament.
