The Empire State Summer Games is a yearly, state-wide competition that features many different athletic sporting events. The games use a regional qualifying system in which the state is broken down into six areas (Adirondack, Western, Central, Hudson Valley, New York City and Long Island). Upon finishing among the top spots in your region for your event, the athlete/team advances to the finals which feature the best competitors from each area.

Former Hawk wrestler Anthony Romano was awarded the James Gordon Bennett Medal for “acting in the highest tradition and without regard for his own personal safety to rescue a fellow member.” He responded to a fire in Richmond Hill, Queens on the morning of February 26, 2008 and was assigned the outside vent position. He climbed the ladder to the second floor, entered a window with heavy black smoke coming out of it, found fellow fire fighter Robert Grover who was trapped in the building and escaped the burning house, saving his life.

New York, NY - In 2007,
Terrance Madden became the first Hunter wrestler to win a National Championship. Since then, Madden has remained active on the US National and International freestyle wrestling circuit. Competing this past weekend at the ASICS U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in Cleveland, Ohio, Madden finished fifth overall in the 74kg weight class with a 4-2 record on the day. His performance earned him a trip to Council Bluffs, Iowa where he will compete for a spot on the world team. The matches are scheduled for June 11-12 at the Mid-America Center.

Eduardo Delgado (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) battled their way thought the brackets to earn third place finishes and helped the Hawks to an eighth place finish at the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Championships hosted by The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ.
