Hawk Grapplers Defeat Yeshiva & Middlesex CC At Centenary Quad

Hackettstown, NJ – Competing in a Quad match this Sunday, the Hunter wrestling team picked up their second victory this season against Yeshiva 46-7 and also defeated Middlesex County Community College, 25-20 in the team's first two matches of the day at Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ.

125 pounds

After taking a forfeit win against Yeshiva, senior Evan Velez (Bronx, NY/Lehman) had a tough time with Gabe Roman of Middlesex, suffering a 22-6 tech fall to drop to 8-5 on the season.

133 pounds

Freshman Sean Messina continued his unbeaten streak with a 1:06 pin on Steve Fallon of Middlesex. In the Yeshiva match, freshman Greg Pollock (Milburn, NJ/Milburn) improves his season record to 5-2 with a 11-1 major decision on Isaac Kuyunov.

141 pounds

Sophomore Adam Coleman (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) got his fourth win of the season with a 5-4 decision over Zak Flores of Middlesex, while freshman Oliver Lopez (Santo Domingo, D.R./McKee) suffered a 12-2 major decision defeat Ariel Simichi of Yeshiva.

149 pounds

After losing his collegiate debut match to Amichai Levy of Yeshiva earlier in the season, freshman Daniel Astarita (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) got a second chance on Sunday and pinned Levy in 4:36 for his second victory of the season.

165 pounds

Competing up a weight class, freshman Matt Cartusciello (Staten Island, NY/Petrides) was shutout by Justin Persico of Middlesex, 5-0. In the Yeshiva match, freshman Christopher Gross (Somers, NY/Somers) improved to 2-2 on the year with a 4:34 pin on Max Saltzman.

197 pounds

Senior Brian Scher (Levittown, NY/MacArthur) continued his win streak with a forfeit victory against Yeshiva and an 8-2 major decision on Dan Hopkins of Middlesex to win his seventh straight match.
