Bayside, NY – The Hunter College men's and women's track & field teams opened up their outdoor campaigns on this weekend, competing at the Queensborough Community College Relays in Bayside, NY.
The men's distance medley relay team, consisting of
Luis Cabrera (New York, NY/Leadership),
James McArdle (Williston Park, NY/Herricks),
Andrew Wong and
Nikoloz Rekhviashvili (Forest Hills, NY/Forest Hills), took first with a time of 12:23.93. Competing in the 10,000 meter run,
Cabrera finished third overall with a time of 36:40.00. In the 400 meter hurdles,
McArdle and
Rekhviashvili crossed the line sixth and seventh respectively.
In the field, freshman
Zamor continued his success from the indoor season, taking second place in the igh jump, clearing 1.62 meters, fourth place in the shot put with a top toss of 11.08 and eighth out of 19 throwers in javelin with a max distance of 32.76 meters.
On the women's side, freshman
Elsie Akwara (New York, NY/International School of Moshii) took third in the 400 meter hurdles, finishing in 1:22.90, followed by fellow freshman
Mehida Alexandre (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay) in fourth place, coming in at 1:23.84.
Akwara also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing eighth out of 15 competitors with a time of 1:10.62, followed by freshman
Nancy Olisma in ninth place with a time of 1:13.32.
In the field, senior
Valene Michel (St. Albans, NY/Newcomers) finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 13.46 meters and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 7.77 meters.
The teams will be back in action on Saturday, March 21 when they head to Jersey City, NJ for the Saint Peter's College Invitational held at Lincoln Park.
