Cambridge, MA – The men’s and women’s fencing seasons came to end on Sunday with sophomore foil Jose Samora, Jr. (New York, NY/Frederick Douglas Academy) and junior epee Centhia Obi (Bronx, NY/Manhattan Center) were the only two Hawks to advance past the first round before missing the cut to advance further at the NCAA Regional Tournament hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA.

Samora, Jr. finished the first round ranked 19th out of 27 fencers with the top 20 advancing. In the second round, he would finish 18th out of 20, but only the top 12 made the cut to the finals. In epee, senior Joshua Lopez won half his matches and finished 21st out of 34 competitors, just missing the cut as the top 20 advanced to the second round.

On the women’s side, Obi finished 20th out of 42 fencers, winning half of her bouts to advance to the second round. In the second, she struggled and was unable to pick up a victory to finish the tournament ranked 24th overall. In sabre, second-year fencer Stella Shifrin finished 26th and junior Nicole Schirmer was 27th overall out of 36 fencers.
