Final Results
New York, NY – After two days of competition, the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference outdoor track & field championship came to a close and the Hawks were in a close battle once again with Lehman College, coming out just eight points behind the Lightning to finish in second place overall. Despite the second place finish, freshman
Max Zamor (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) was honored as the meet’s Most Valuable Performer after earning 37 individuals points, the most of all men who competed at the Championship held at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.
Coming off an indoor season where he led the team in points earned, Zamor had some great performances during the championship while competing in eight events and earning medals in four of those. On Sunday, Zamor earned valuable points for his team with silver medal finishes in the shot put and javelin. In the shot, he recorded a top toss of 11.35 meters and maxed out with his first throw in the javelin, a distance of 42.89 meters. He also earned bronze medals in the high jump and discus events.
Sophomore
Luis Cabrera recorded a personal best of 16:33.10 in the 5,000 meter run, finishing just under a minute faster than the next best senior college runner and just under 20 seconds ahead of the next best overall runner. Cabrera also won a gold medal for finishing the 10,000 meter run in 34:37.01 and took home bronze in the 1,500 meter run.
Also earning medals in field events were freshmen
Timothy Coleman, Jr. and
Chris Molfetas taking silver and bronze in the hammer throw, and junior
Oscar Dotti claiming first place in the high jump. In track events, sophomore
Benjamin Chateauvert took home silver after finishing the 1500 in 4:31.66; freshman
Arben Argair picked up bronze in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter run; sophomore Andrew Wong won silver in the 10,000 meter run; freshman
Arben Argair won gold in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles; freshman
Dimitry Generalov placed third in the 110 hurdles and Dotti earned silver in both the 110 and 400 hurdle events.
