New York, NY – Over 25 former Hunter student-athletes were among the 3,000 members of the Class of 2009 who were a part of the 199th Hunter College Commencement ceremony held on Thursday, May 28 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, NY.

Softball second baseman and 2009 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Catherine Alves had the honor of sitting on the main stage alongside many other special individuals that were highlighted during Hunter President Jennifer J. Raab's opening speech.

The United States Secretary of Labor, Hilda L. Solis, delivered the keynote address, telling the graduates she was proud to represent the Obama administration at Hunter's ceremony, and that she was impressed with stories of success against-all-odds that accompanied so many of Hunter's grads.

Also on hand to address the packed hall was New York Senator Charles E. Schumer and television star Tony Plana who plays Ignacio Suarez on the ABC hit show “Ugly Betty”.
