New York, NY – Senior guard Shay Branch El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) recorded career highs of 21 points and 16 rebounds, but her efforts wouldn’t be enough as the Hawks come up short on the road 67-62 to the Panthers of Purchase College in women’s basketball action on Monday night.

The Panthers scored the game’s first six points and then quickly built up a 16-7 lead as the Hawks struggled to find their offensive game. Then trailing 22-15 with 8:05 left in the first half, the Hawks fought back and captured their first lead of the game, 23-22 with 4:53 to go in the half. Purchase would answer back and end up taking a 33-27 lead at the end of the half.

Then after trailing for most of the second half, junior guard Shamar Stewartson (Springfield Gardens, NY/Far Rockaway) sank a layup to tie the game at 53 with 3:32 left in the game. However, much like the end of the first half, Purchase managed to once again pull away and pick up the victory.

Stewartson would end up as the only other Hawks to finish in double-figures, scoring a Hunter career high of 21 points.

For the Panthers, senior center Lilia Mack scored a game high 25 points, while junior guard Amanda Capone added 14 points off the bench.

Hunter (10-7, 5-2 CUNYAC) return home on Wednesday, when they are schedule to host Medgar Evers College (5-10, 1-5 CUNYAC) in the first game of a CUNY Athletic Conference doubleheader, with the women tipping off at 5:00 p.m.
