Hawks Finish 15th at Metropolitan Swimming Championship

New Brunswick, NJ – Senior Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) closed out her three-year career at Hunter with the team's top two individual performances at the 2010 Metropolitan Conference Championship meet held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

Alvord placed 13th in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.28, she then finished the finals of the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.34 also placing 13th overall.

Competing in the 1650, senior Carla Mendoza finished with a time 23:26.97 for 28th place, followed by sophomore Alexis Burgos in 30th with a time of 24:24.75. Burgos then qualified for the finals of the 400-yard IM where she finished 24th with a time of 6:23.23.

Senior Angela Haskell was the lone Hawk competing in one meter diving, scoring 193.20 points for 17th place.

In relay events, the team of Alvord, juniors Kimberly Happich, Olga Kovalkova and sophomore Marian Wu finished 15th in the final of the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:09.49. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Hawks finished finals in 17th place in 1:53.05. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Alvord, Happich, Haskell and Wu finished in 9:16.45 for 14th place.

The 200-yard medley relay team finished the finals in 16th place with a time of 2:06.58 and also finished the 400-yard medley in 16th with a finals time of 5:08.70.

This concludes the 2009-10 season, the Hawks will now begin preparing for next season and making a run at reclaiming the CUNY Athletic Conference Championship.
