Bronx, NY – Senior Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) earned her first gold medal of the 2009-10 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship meet by breaking the record she set a last year’s championship in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:34.27 at the first day of competition of the meet held at the APEX on the campus of Lehman College in the Bronx, NY.

Sophomore Marian Wu (Flushing, NY/Stuyvesant) also had an impressive performance, earning silver in the 200-yard IM with a career best time of 2:29.80, nine seconds faster than her prior top time.

The Hawks will head back to the APEX for the second day of competition on Friday that will kick off with senior Angela Haskell (Bar Harbor, ME/Mount Desert Island) competing in one meter diving at 3:00 p.m.
