New York, NY – Junior Stella Shifrin (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow) finished the day with a 14-3 record, and then defeated Alicia Rapp of Drew University in a fence-off to be named the 2010 EWFC Sabre Fencer of the Year at the EWFC Individual Championship Tournament held at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

Senior Nicole Schirmer (Selden, NY/Newfield) also had a successful day, being named to the first-team all-conference at sabre with a 13-4 record for fourth place overall. Junior Joanne Ong (Queens Village, NY/American Studies) took 12th in sabre, and sophomore Wendy Mak (Long Island City, NY/Baruch) placed 12th in epee. In foil, senior Christina Lio (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) finished 11th overall with an 8-9 record, while sophomore Natalia Dittren (Astoria, NY/Long Island City) finished 14th.

The team will now head to the NIWFA Championship which will be held on Saturday, March 6 at Army in West Point, N.Y.
