Providence, RI – Senior Nicole Schirmer (Selden, NY/Newfield) and junior Stella Shifrin (Brooklyn, NY/Edward R. Murrow) each advanced to the third round and would finish tied for 20th place overall in sabre at the 2009-10 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.

Shifrin, who entered the day ranked 32nd, finished the first two rounds with a 6-4 record and her 20th place finish is six places up from last season. Schirmer was ranked 37th coming into today, and also went 6-4 through the first two rounds and improved seven spots from her performance at last year’s regionals. In epee, sophomore Wendy Mak (Long Island City, NY/Baruch) finished 36th out of 48 fencers, while senior Christina Lio (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) placed 42nd in foil.
