Providence, RI – After falling behind by two sets, the Hawks battled back and won the next three including a dramatic 22-20 fifth set to defeat the #9 Endicott College in their second match at the Johnson & Wales tri-match on Saturday afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island.

Sophomore outside hitter Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) was the high man for the Hawks, finishing with 25 kills, hitting .389. Junior outside hitter Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) also had a big match with 19 kills and 16 digs, while freshman middle blocker Braien Otsla (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) added 18 kills and six total blocks. Senior setter Zacarias Ripoll-Cid (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) tallied 62 assists, nine digs, eight kills and five total blocks.

This was the Hawks (22-9) first win this season against a nationally ranked squad. They will now return home on Tuesday when they are scheduled to host Brooklyn College (3-17) in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference men’s volleyball championship tournament at 6:00 p.m.
