New York, NY – Junior outside hitter Christopher Newcomb (Waimea, Kauai, HI/Waimea) and sophomore middle blocker Eric Barty (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) each had team highs of nine kills, but their efforts wouldn’t be enough as the top-seeded and #4 nationally ranked Baruch College Bearcats capture their second consecutive CUNY Athletic Conference Championship 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-27) on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Junior opposite Marcin Polak (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) and freshmen middle blocker Braien Otsla (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) each added five kills, while senior setter Zacarias Ripoll-Cid (Puerto Plata, D.R./John F. Kennedy) finished with 29 assists, seven digs, four kills and two total blocks. For their efforts during the championship tournament, Barty and Ripoll-Cid were named to the all-tournament team.

For the Bearcats, tournament most valuable player Sequiel Sanchez had a match high 13 kills along with eight digs. Juniors Santos Rivera and Erik Kowalski each finished with nine kills, and senior setter Ivan Andujar had 40 assists.

Hunter (24-10) will now prepare for the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Championship Tournament which kicks-off on Friday, April 9 at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center in Hyannis, Massachusetts. The tournament brackets and seeding will be announced on Sunday, April 4.
