Dallas, PA- The Hunter women's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season with a 6-3 victory over host Misericodia University on Saturday morning. The Hawks won four of the six singles matches and then two of the three doubles matches for the victory.
Senior Evgeniya Kim (Flushing, NY/Cardozo) started things off with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at first singles. Sophomore Jennifer Kraham (East Northport, NY/Commack) followed with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second singles. Junior Jessica Yi (Queens, NY/Newport) won her third singles match 6-3, 6-3. The Hawks dropped both fourth and fifth singles matches with sophomore Olga Chagin (Dix Hills, NY/Tottenville) losing at fourth singles 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 and sophomore Nora Milman (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) losing fifth singles 6-1, 6-1. The Hawks were able to pick up a win at sixth singles with sophomore Ericka Jaramillo (Jamaica, NY/Townsend Harris) gaining a 6-4, 6-0 victory to give the team a 4-2 advantage going into doubles play.
The match was decided at first doubles with Kim and Jaramillo gaining an 8-2 victory to give the Hawks their fifth point needed for the match victory. At second doubles Kraham and Yi were down 6-5 but rallied to pick up an 8-6 victory for the Hawks' sixth and final point of the day. Chagin and Milman dropped their third doubles match 8-3 to finish up the scoring.
The Hawks now stand at 14-4 and will next be in action on Wednesday when they will host Drew University for a match to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center in Flushing, NY
