New York, NY- Competing in seven events sophomore Max Zamor (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) lead the men’s track and field team to a fifth place finish at the New York Relays at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island. The meet contained athletes from Division 2, Division 3, Community College, Club teams, and Open athletes. Only college teams were scored.

Zamor scored points in six of the seven events with his best finish being a second place finish in the shot put and fourth overall with a throw of 39 feet 5.75 inches. He also finished third in triple jump with a jump of 40 feet 2.25 inches, third in the high jump and fifth overall with a height of 5 feet 8 inches, and seventh in the long jump and ninth overall with a jump of 17 feet. After finishing with the eighth fastest time in the 110 meter high hurdles preliminaries, Zamor finished eighth in the finals with a time of 18.67 seconds. In his seventh event, the 400 meter high hurdles Zamor finished in tenth and 13th overall with a time of 1:05.70.

Sophomore Nikoloz Rekhviashvili (Forest Hills, NY/Forest Hills) also made a big contribution to the scoring with a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles and eighth overall with a time of 1:01.18 which is a season best for him. After finishing with a season best 17.24 seconds in 110 meter high hurdles preliminaries which were the sixth fastest time, Rekhviashvili came back and finished in sixth place in the final running 17.67 seconds.

Sophomore Andrew Wong (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) just missed scoring by finishing in ninth place in the 5000 meter run and 17th overall with a time of 19:53.71.  Running in the 400 freshman Lorenzo Daley (Ocho Rios, Jamaica/George Washington Carver High School For The Sciences) finished in tenth with a time of 55.60 seconds while freshman Alex Ronis (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant) finished in 13th with a time of 1:10.88.

The men’s 4X400 meter relay team will next be in action on Friday when they will compete in the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA. The rest of the team will next be in action on Sunday when they travel to compete in the Yale Invitational in New Haven, CT.
