New York, NY – Freshman
Melanie Boyce (New York, NY/Bishop Ford Central) scored a total of 30 points in four events on Sunday to lead the women's track and field team to a third place finish in the New York Relays at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. The meet contained athletes from Division 2, Division 3, Community College, Club teams, and Open athletes. Only college teams were scored.
Boyce finished in second place in the high jump with a height of four feet five inches, third in the long jump with jump of 14 feet 7 inches, and second place of scoring teams and fourth overall in the triple jump with a jump of 32 feet 11.25 inches. She was also apart of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished fifth overall and second of scoring teams. Freshman Barbara Erdei (Tatabanya, Hungary/Rocky Point) also had a productive day scoring 17 points by finishing fourth in the shot put and fifth overall with a throw of 25 feet 9.75 inches, fifth in the discus and seventh overall with a throw of 66 feet 6 inches, fourth in the hammer with a throw of 55 feet 4 inches, and sixth in the javelin and ninth overall with a throw of 49 feet 4 inches.
Freshman Heidi Rim (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) finished in third place in the hammer throw with a throw of 60 feet 8 inches, sixth in the discus and eighth overall with a throw of 55 feet, seventh in the shot put and eighth overall with a throw of 22 feet 5.75 inches, and eighth in the javelin and 11th overall with a throw of 38 feet 2 inches. Sophomore Nancy Olisma (Brooklyn, NY/St. Saviour) qualified for the 200 meter final with the seventh fastest time in the preliminaries and then came back in the final and finished in sixth place with a time of 28.25 seconds. She also finished in fourth in the 400 meter hurdles and seventh overall with a time of 1:10.19.
Running in the 800 meter run freshmanLizzy Mahoney (Auburn, NY/Auburn) finished in ninth and 15th overall with a time of 2:40.58. Following right behind her was freshman Jennifer Arozamena (Hoboken, NJ/Woodbridge) in tenth place and 16th overall with a time of 2:42.12. In the 1500 meter run Arozamena finished in third place and tenth overall with a time of 5:26.27. She was the winner of the second of three 1500 meter heats. Mahoney was right behind her in fourth place and 11th overall with a time of 5:27.74. Freshman Jacklyn Henderson (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) was not far behind finishing in sixth place and 13th overall with a time of 5:31.59. Henderson also finished in eighth place in the 5000 meter run and 13th overall with a time of 20:56.79.
The Hawks will next compete on Sunday in the Yale Invitational in New Haven, CT.
