Hawks Close Out Regular Season with 9-0 Win at Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ – Competing in their final regular season match, the Hunter men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 victory over non-conference opponent Rutgers-Newark on Saturday to improve to 12-3 on the year.

In doubles action, the team of senior Noel Marrero (Bronx, NY/Lehman) and sophomore Alex Stanciu (New York, NY/Locust Valley) won their first singles match 8-3, while freshmen Irving Salazar and Louis Cruz (Bronx, NY/F.L.A.G.S.) won second doubles 8-2, followed by senior Gian Arceo (Flushing, NY/Bayside) and sophomore Mark Goldfinger (New York, NY/School of the Future) winning third doubles 8-3.

Then in singles action, Stanciu defeated Raymond Postadan 7-5, 7-5 in the top spot. At second singles, Marrero picked up his sixth win of the year with a 6-0, 6-1 match against William Chueng. After losing the first set 7-5, Salazar came back to win the second 6-4 and then won the super tiebreaker 10-8 at third singles.

Cruz got his sixth win of the season in a 6-1, 6-2 match at fourth singles. Goldfinger won his first set 6-3 before his opponent was forced to retire during the second set, while Arceo won his sixth singles match 6-2, 6-1.

The Hawks will enter this year's conference championship tournament as the second seed after finishing with a 7-1 CUNYAC record. Their first round opponent will be made known on Monday after the conference office releases the official bracket.
