New Haven, CT. – In their final tune-up before the CUNYAC Championship meet next weekend the men’s track and field team competed in the Yale Springtime Invitational in New Haven, CT. on Sunday. Many Hawks runners came out of the day with season best times.
Freshman Ryan Baxter (New York, NY/Hunter) had a season best throw of 86' 10" in the javelin. Running in the 1500 meter race junior Gem Alegre (Hollis, NY/Martin Van Buren) had a season best time of 4:44.88 while sophomore Jeffrey Castano (Little Neck, NY/Fort Hamilton) also had a season best time of 4:56.58. Sophomore Nikoloz Rekhviashvili (Forest Hills,NY, Forest Hills) improved his season best time in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 17.04 seconds.
In the 400 meter run all seven runners had season best times led by junior James McArdle (Williston Park, NY/Herricks) with a time of 56.41 second. He was followed closely by freshman Jose Miranda (Staten Island, NY/Xavier) in a time of 57.88 seconds. Sophomore Legenry Sosa (Bronx, NY/Monroe Academy) ran 59.61 seconds, freshman Javier Levy (Brooklyn, NY/Clara Barton) was next in 1:04.57, followed by freshman Jose Jaime (Woodside, NY/LaGarudia for the Arms and Performing Arts) in 1:06.92, freshman Omar Olivella (Astoria, NY/St. John's Prep) in 1:08.08, and freshman Alex Ronis (Brooklyn, NY/Stuyvesant) in 1:08.57.
Alegre ran another season best in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.68. Levy also ran a season best in the 200 meter run with a time of 25.06 seconds.
The Hawks 4X400 meter relay team was in action on Friday when they competed in the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA. The team of freshman Lorenzo Daley, Rekhviashvili, sophomore Max Zamor, and freshman Joseph Papa finished in a time of 3:49.08.
The Hawks will next be in action on Sunday May 2 as they compete in the CUNYAC Championship at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island.
