The Hunter Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) successfully held Relay to National Student Athlete Day this weekend. On Friday night a group of student athletes from Hunter went down to Baruch and participated in Relay for Life. After participating in the all night event that raised money to fight cancer, the group of student s came back to Hunter for some much needed rest and breakfast.
On Saturday afternoon SAAC held their National Student Athlete Day Barbeque at Murphy Field on the campus on Fordham University during the softball doubleheader vs. CSI. The Softball team was also celebrating Senior Day. Many student athletes showed up to enjoy the beautiful weather and cheer on the softball team. In between games the executive board gave out SAAC sportsmanship, team spirit, and MVP awards.
The SAAC Sportsmanship Award was given to a male and female athlete who best exemplified sportsmanship both on and off the field during the year. This year’s winners were Max Zamor of the Cross Country and Track and Field team and Nancy Olisma also of the Cross Country and Track and Field team.
The SAAC Team Spirit Award was given to a men’s and women’s team that supported other Hawks teams the most during the year. This year’s winners were the Wrestling team and Women’s Basketball. The Wrestling team was on full display to accept their award while a group of Women’s Basketball players were in attendance to cheer on teammate and SAAC Vice President Christina Baker who is also on the softball team.
The SAAC MVP award is awarded to the person who is not an executive board member who dedicates his/her energies to helping the Committee and Hunter Athletics. This year’s winner was Jose Samora of the Men’s Fencing team.
The SAAC executive board would like to congratulate all award winners and thank all those that came out this weekend and supported SAAC and Hunter Athletics.
