Hawks Conclude Season At NYC Qualifying Challenge

New York, NY - The women's track and field team concluded their season this weekend by competing in the NYC Qualifying Challenge on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The meet held at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island had competitors from all three NCAA divisions and included open athletes.

On Friday night, competing in perfect running conditions, sophomore Nancy Olisma (Brooklyn, NY/St. Saviour) ran a season best time of 27.37 in the 200 meter dash, while freshman Barbara Erdei (Tatabanya, Hungary/Rocky Point) finished with a time of 34.59. Also running in the 200 meter dash a quartet of distance runners got some speed work in. They were freshman Jacklyn Henderson (Oyster Bay, NY/Oyster Bay) who finished with a time of 31.94, freshman Jennifer Arozamena (Hoboken, NJ/Woodbridge) with a time of 32.65, sophomore Michelle Munevar (Corona, NY/John Bowne) with a time of 36.35, and freshman Lizzy Mahoney (Auburn, NY/Auburn) with a time of 36.62. Also competing on Friday night was sophomore Mehida Alexandre (Brooklyn, NY/Sheepshead Bay) who ran the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:19.43.

On a very windy Saturday Olisma came very close to her personal best time in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.49. Running in the 800 meter run freshman Aime Salazar (East Elmhurst, NY/Bronx School of Science) finished with a time of 2:53.50. In field events freshman Heidi Rim (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) had a best throw of 17.23 meters in the discus and 12.18 meters in the javelin. Also competing in the javelin freshman Johanna Keilwitz (Wolmirstedt, Germany/Sportgymnasium Halle) had a best throw of 21.81 meters. Freshman Trisha Townsend (Hempstead, NY/Uniondale) had a best jump of 4.20 meters in the long jump.
