New York, NY – Junior short stop
Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) hit a perfecr 4-for-4 with a season high five runs batted in to lead the Hawks to an 11-0 victory over York College in the quarterfinal round of the 2010 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday afternoon on Randall’s Island.
Senior outfielder
Stephanie Alves (Queens, NY/Francis Lewis) lead off the bottom of the first with a single and would score the Hawks first run two batters later on a single from sophomore catcher
Arielle Zieff (Staten Island, NY/Port Richmond). McKenna then came up to bat and drove in two runs on a single of her own. Finally, sophomore outfielder
Josephine Estevez (Bronx, NY/Bronx Lab) had an in the park homerun to score the final three runs of the inning, giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
McKenna would drive in a run in her next three at bats as the Hawks tacked on two runs in the second and third innings and one more in the fourth inning for good measure. Zieff finished the day 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while freshman second baseman
Molly Meehan (Pearl River, NY/Albertus Magnus) reached in each of her at bats and scored each time as well.
Junior
Stephanie Damroth (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) got the start on the mound for the Hawks, striking out six batters in three innings of action to record the victory. Sophomore
Lauren Stensland (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) struck out two batters in her two inning relief effort. For the Cardinals, freshman Thessaly Belizario pitched four innings and gave up ten earned runs in her final performance of the season.
The third-seeded Hawks now advance to the double-elimination round of the tournament which begins on Friday with a game against the second-seeded College of Staten Island at 1:00 p.m. at the CSI Softball Complex.
