15 Hawks Garner Spring All-Star Honors

With the spring sports wrapped up, the City of New York Athletic Conference announced the names of each sport's All-Stars. There were a total of 15 Hunter student-athletes who honored.

Men's Outdoor Track and Field

The men's Outdoor Track and Field team completed another solid season in 2011, placing third in the CUNYAC championships, including 18 top five finishes. For their accomplishments, the three Hawks were selected to the All-Star team, with Chris Guerrero, Jose Miranda, and Joseph Papa making the cut.

Men's Tennis

The men's tennis team was impressive once again in 2011, successfully defending their CUNYAC title, defeating Baruch 5-2 to earn their second straight NCAA Regional berth. After going 7-5 during the season and 4-3 in the regular season, Arthur Kapetanakis was the sole Hawk named to the First Team. Mark Goldfinger received an All-Star nod as well, earning Second Team honors after going 10-5 overall, and 7-1 in CUNYAC play.

Women's Outdoor Track and Field

The women's Outdoor Track and Field team used placed second in the CUNYAC championships in 2011 behind 17 top-five finishes. Five members of the team were rewarded for their impressive efforts by the conference when they were named as All-Stars, including Jelisa Forde, Nancy Olisma, Melanie Boyce, Mia Carroll, and Heidy Rim. Forde was particularly successful in the conference championships, taking home the gold in the 400m dash, with Olisma taking fifth in the same event. Boyce was strong in several events placing first in the high jump, second in the triple jump, and fifth in the long jump at the championships. In field events, Carrol placed second in the discus and third in the javelin, while Rim earned a second place finish in the javelin.

Softball

The Hunter College softball team saw their 2011 season end in heartbreaking fashion after falling to Baruch in the CUNYAC championships. Despite falling short of a championship, the Hawks had a strong season, with several players receiving conference honors. Four Hawks were named as First Team All-Stars, including Megan McKenna, Julia Lipovac, Arielle Zieff, and Angel Iacovetti. McKenna led the Hawks in batting average in 2011 with a .388 clip, with Lipovac right behind her at .387. Zieff had a strong year at the plate as well, batting .389, while also providing leadership behind the plate for her young pitching staff. Freshman phenom, Iacovetti not only contributed to the Hawks success with her bat, posting a .250 average with three homeruns, but she also led the team on the mound, going 12-9 with a 1.87 ERA. Christina Baker was also honored by the conference, receiving a selection to the Second Team. Baker started all 38 games for the Hawks batting .247.
