Mahar Reyes, one of the top women’s swimmers in the program’s history, had a standout career in the early 1980’s. She set several school records that still stand today, over 20 years later, including individual records in the 200 freestyle (2:03.20), 500 freestyle (5:31.30), 100 individual medley (1:05.23) and 200 individual medley (2:22.00). She was also on the record-setting 200 freestyle medley relay squad (2:02.52). As a sophomore in 1982-83, she became one of Hunter’s first two swimmers to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships. She was named MVP of the 1982-83 Metropolitan Conference Championships after winning four events and leading the Hawks to a third place finish, the best in school history. The Hawks compiled a 32-10-1 dual meet record during her three years from 1982-85.
