Simply known as “Coach Z” to all, Ed Zarowin has lifted the Hunter College cross country, indoor and outdoor track programs to new heights in his tenure as head coach. He has had 16 student-athletes attain All-American status and had two of his protégés earn NCAA Championships. Coach Z has also witnessed two of his athletes qualify for the Olympics, including Ian Gray (for Belize) in 1988 and 1992 and Orcen Newland (for Guyana) in 1996. Coach Zarowin has picked up numerous honors including being named the CUNYAC Coach of the Year in 1995-96 for men’s cross country, men’s indoor track and field and men’s outdoor track and field after this teams captured all three titles. The “Triple Crown” season is believed to have been the first in CUNYAC history.
