A four-year letter winner in softball, Mary Ann Veltre played on CUNYAC Championship teams as a sophomore in 1984 and a senior in 1986. Her career batting average was .441, which set a school record at the time and still ranks fourth on the Hunter Career list. She led the Hawks in batting as both a sophomore (.511) and a junior (.463). She also drove in 33 runs as a junior, setting a Hunter single season record that would stand for 11 years. On the career charts, she ranks fifth in hits, sixth in singles, eighth in doubles and twelfth in RBI’s. She was a two-year team captain at a time when the Hawks played an all away schedule which included Division I and II opponents.
