New York- The Hunter College Student Athlete Advisory Committee successfully held its third annual food drive to City Harvest from November 1 to 22.
"For the past two years, SAAC has hosted a canned food drive to help families across New York City during the holidays," says SAAC president and women's volleyball standout, Mariam Ouattara. "We addressed the importance of giving back to our communities in our biweekly meetings, and advertised our drive for the whole month of November."
Collectively, the Hawks were able to donate over 350 pounds of food to City Harvest for the Holiday Season. City Harvest is New York City's largest food rescue organization that works to collect and deliver food free of charge to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community partners throughout the five boroughs.
"No one deserves to go hungry and so to do a small part in helping even just one family feed their own while I gratefully eat with mine is something I'm happy to do and am ecstatic that my fellow student athletes found this donation just as important and moving," said Vice President of SAAC, Erin Shweers.
The Hunter College SAAC is a board made up of student-athletes who are committed to generating a voice for the student-athlete within the NCAA. The purpose of the committee is to establish a communication network between the student-athletes and the athletic administration, to engage in community service programs to enhance the public relations of our athletic program and to give back to various groups within the local community.
