On Wednesday, November 26th at 1pm student-athletes from each of the four academic classes faced off in a series of athletic (and edible) competitions! Purple, Gold, Black, and White teams competed in a total of five games, ending in a Junior class win!
Seniors (Purple) took home the first competition of the day, Dodgeball, by overtaking the Freshman class two games to one. They would later take down the Junior class two games to nil in the final round of Dodgeball play. Seniors continued to dominate as the competition shifted to Melonball, a creative mix of tennis and volleyball.
Gold surpassed Purple as Juniors took first place in the 3-point shoot-out. Junior, Dan Heydebrand of the Men's Wrestling team, sunk three 3's to help the Gold team to a total of 9 shots to secure the win. Purple turned the momentum in their direction once again by winning the donut-eating contest. Donuts were tied on strings and two student-athletes per team tried to eat their donut without using their hands in the shortest amount of time. Led by seniors, Joshua Lopez of Men's Fencing and Brian Scher of Men's Wrestling, the Purple team finished first in a little over a minute.
The final event, the "Punt, Pass, Kick" game, designed by Hunter's friends at American Collegiate Intramural Sports (ACIS), had Purple and Gold trading wins back and forth. Juniors ended up taking first, and Seniors ended in a disappointing third place, tying the final standings for the entire Battle of the Classes.
A fateful hula hoop contest decided the winner: Senior,
Catherine Alves of Softball faced off against junior, Christina Lio of Women's Fencing. With intense screaming and shouting for a couple of minutes straight, Christina Lio persevered, locking in the win for Juniors and bringing home the Gold!
Congratulations to all participating Juniors! Special thanks to everyone for participating and for the set-up committee, including Mike Belfiore,
Catherine Alves,
Safiya Solomon, Claire Madden, and Brittany Jackolski.
