New York, NY – Sophomore middle blocker Mallory Grubler (Bayside, NY/Cardozo) recorded a post season high 16 kills, while hitting .433 to lead the Hawks to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-9, 25-21) victory over John Jay College in the Quarterfinal round of the 2009 CUNY Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Tuesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

This is just the second time this season that Grubler recorded double-digit kills in a three set match, with her prior being 11 against Medgar Evers. The Bloodhounds played a tough first and third set, sticking with the Hawks for most of the way, but Hunter’s postseason experience showed as they were able to pull out the closing points in each set.

Sophomore outside hitter Christine Luebcke (Jackson Heights, NY/Cardozo) continued to solid play as of late with ten kills and 13 digs, while senior outside hitter Karolina Koguc (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) put five points on the board with as many kill in her final performance at the Sportsplex.

For the Bloodhounds, senior outside hitter Andrea Medina led her team with nine kills and 15 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Justyna Kopec added six kills, and junior setter Erica Lee put up 14 assists and 15 digs.

Tonight’s victory advances the Hawks to the semifinal round of the CUNYAC Tournament where the Hawks will face the winner of #2 CCNY / #7 York College at 5:00 p.m. at the City College of New York’s gymnasium, the Nat Holman Center.
