Hawk Alumni Profiles
A native of the Bronx, and member of the Hunter's first ever Cross Country and Track & Field teams,
Michael P. Frankfurt was known as a reliable and responsible student-athlete and teammate. Coached under the instruction of Hunter Hall of Famer Frank Egan, Frankfurt notes his experience learning from Coach Egan as one of his most memorable. During the 1956 season, the Cross Country and Track & Field Team placed third overall in the CTC (Collegiate Track Conference) Championships going undefeated, and completing the next two seasons with no losses as well. As a senior, although unable to compete due to injury, he was named Captain and led his team with spirit and motivation.
Frankfurt, graduating from Hunter in May of 1957 with a Bachelor's Degree in History, was honored with the Bronx Alumni Association Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award. Long after his years as a Hunter Hawk, Frankfurt kept in touch with his former coach before his passing, and has stayed connected with his former teammates as well. In 1978 Frankfurt founded his own private practice, Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, located in Midtown and in 2007 was named one of the Top 100 Power Lawyers in the media industry by The Hollywood Reporter, Esq.
After 19 years, Frankfurt reconnected with his love of running and joined the Millrose Athletic Association, which is the oldest running club in the United States. As a member, he has participated in 50 marathons and about 800 other road races to date. In 1993, Frankfurt founded the Armory Foundation, which provides track and field programs for over 150,000 young high school athletes in its Washington Heights facility during the indoor season. Frankfurt serves the community “with the knowledge that participating in the sport is education and preparation for life, at its best.” He is also Chairman of the Armory Foundation. Still involved with Hunter College Athletics, Frankfurt is, and has been for years, a member of the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and Trustee of the Hunter College Foundation. When asked of his experience as a Hunter Hawk, Frankfurt sums it up as “rewarding.” Michael P. Frankfurt currently resides in Manhattan with his wife and two sons.
