Hawk Alumni Profiles
A Hunter Hawk during the years of 2000-2004, Jennifer Agosto served as a member of the women's basketball and softball teams. As a catcher, first baseman, and outfielder for the softball team, Agosto helped the Hunter Hawks reach three CUNYAC Tournament and regular season Championships. Despite these achievements, Agosto recalls being recognized more for her skills as a basketball player. Known for her outstanding athletic ability and shooting range, she was regarded as one of the best shooters in the conference during her time and is still one of the best shooters in Hunter College history. As a member of the Women's Basketball team, Agosto contributed to three CUNYAC Tournament and regular season Championships, finishing her career with 1,345 total points, fourth in Hunter College history. Reflecting on her experiences as a Hunter Hawk, Agosto says, “One of my most memorable experiences was my senior year basketball season championship game versus CSI when I hit a running jump shot with two seconds left in the game to win.” Ranking amongst the greats in the program's history, Agosto is presently the all-time leader in career three-point field goals made and three-point field goal percentage and also holds the single-season record for most three-point field goals made. Until recently, she held the school record for most three pointers in a game with seven, a record she achieved twice and shared with former teammate Jennifer Rogers. This record however, was broken during the 2008-2009 season by Angelika Wronwska, who converted nine three pointers in a game.
Closing the door on a phenomenal career, Agosto received several awards, including CUNYAC Tournament MVP, CUNYAC All Star, ECAC All Star, MBWA All Star, and Hunter College Alumni Tip-off MVP. She was also chosen for the CUNYAC-NJAC All-Senior Challenge, and D3hoops.com All Region Team. Looking back, Agosto describes her career as a Hunter Hawk as “Unforgettable,” and still keeps in contact with most of her basketball and softball teammates. Speaking of an old teammate, Vana Loukissas, who is currently head coach of the women's Basketball team, Agosto says, “Vana was my point guard and also one of the leaders on the court. She had a positive attitude and always encouraged me when I was down.” Agosto then goes on to say, “I learned a lot from her [Vana] both on and off the court.” After graduating Hunter College with a B.S. in Physical Education in May 2004, Agosto went on to attend a few semi-professional team tryouts and landed a spot with the Ponce Leonas, a professional basketball team in Puerto Rico, where she played for a year. Presently, Jennifer Agosto is a Physical Education teacher at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn and also coaches Boy's JV Basketball, and Girl's handball. She admits that her coaching philosophy stems from what she learned competing as a Hunter Hawk.
Now residing in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, Agosto is currently studying for a Masters degree in Sports Management.
