New York, NY – After taking second at last year's Indoor Championship, sophomore
Amauche Obi-Eyisi (Anambra, Nigeria/Dority International) found herself ahead of the pack with a max throw of 13.16 meters to take home gold in the Weight Throw at the 2008-09 CUNY Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship meet held at the 168th Street Armory in the Washington Heights section of New York City.
Obi-Eyisi also earned silver medal honors in the shot put with a personal best toss of 10.39 meters. Freshman
Trisha Benjamin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) was not far behind, taking fourth in the shot put with a top toss of 8.50 meters and was also fifth in the weight throw.
In track events, junior
Iris Suazo-Kunhardt (Forest Hills, NY/Apostolado) finished tenth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 8.11. In the 55 meter hurdles, freshman
Elsie Akwara (New York, NY/International School of Moshii) was fourth overall with a time of 12.17.
Akwara also finished sixth in the 1500 meter run, crossing the line at 6:56.80.
