Meet Results

New York, NY – Competing in their first meet of the new year, the hunter women’s swimming team suffered a tough defeat on Friday evening, falling to Baruch College by a score of 61-34 in a CUNY Athletic Conference meet held at Hunter’s North Pool.

Senior Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) was the only Hawk to record a first place finish, speeding ahead of the competition in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:25.39, nine seconds faster than Grace Kim of Baruch who finished second. Alvord’s other win came in her trademark event, the 100-yard backstroke, where the tapped the wall at 1:05.31 with Kim not far behind at 1:07.22.

One of the Bearcats top competitors on the day was senior Jessica Penaherrera who took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:14.88 and then finishing just under four seconds ahead of the pack in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in at 1:06.82.

Baruch now improves to 4-4 on the year and will next face Lehman College on Monday in what could determine first place in the CUNYAC, while the Hawks (3-7) head to Mount Saint Mary on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference meet.
