SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - Hunter College men's tennis player Yevgeny Perepelov won the 2011 USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Singles Championship by defeating Oliver Loutsenko of host Skidmore College 6-4, 7-6 (4).

After his opening set victory, Perepelov trailed 4-1 in the second set before rallying to win the tiebreaker.

It is the first USTA/ITA Regional Singles Championship Tournament victory in Hunter College tennis history. Perepelov was seeded second in the singles bracket, while the fifth-seeded Loutsenko disposed of top-seeded Andrew Guzick of Vassar College in the semifinal round.

In the opening round, Perepelov defeated Cody Berman of Hamilton, 6-1, 6-3. Perepelov then defeated CJ Leong of NYU (6-3, 6-3) and Jack August of the College of New Jersey (6-1, 6-2) to advance to the quarterfinal round.

Perepelov defeated seventh-seeded Jarrett Regier 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semifinals, where he faced unseeded Miles Ransom of host Skidmore College. Despite the homecourt advantage, Perepelov swept Ransom in the first set, and outlasted him in the second 7-6 (1) to advance to the finals.

Perepelov teamed up with Luis Quintero to form the fourth-seeded entry in the doubles bracket. After winning their first three matches, they were defeated in the semifinals by Jimmy Sherpa and Alec Hoblitzell of host Skidmore College in a 9-7 tiebreaker.

Perepelov advances to compete in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, which will be held at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama on October 13-16. Perepelov will compete against the seven other NCAA Division III Regional Singles Champions.
