Ray Bello is in his 12th season as the head of the men’s volleyball team. Through his first 11 seasons, coach Bello had a career record of 213-116, including an appearance in the 2012 NCAA Championship, where he guided the Hawks to the school's first victory at the NCAA Championships.
Last season, Bello guided the Hawks to a 17-15 record against a tremendously tough schedule that saw the Hawks play 12 nationally ranked teams.
He has directed the program to four Conference Championships and three ECAC Tournament Championships and during his fifth season, he reached the 100 win milestone.
Through his first 11 years at the helm of the Hawks, Bello’s resume of honors grew to include 38 CUNYAC All-Stars, three CUNYAC Tournament MVP’s, 15 All-Tournament nods, three Players of the Year, three Rookies of the Year and one ECAC Tournament MVP to name a few. Additionally, he’s been named the conference Coach of the Year on five occasions.
Bello was named head coach in 2004, replacing his former head coach Lauren Caiaccia with whom he played under for three-years, serving as the team’s starting setter. During his time as a student-athlete at Hunter, Bello won two CUNYAC Championships and earned CUNYAC All-Star honors in 2002 and 2003 and NECVA All-Star status in 2003. Currently, Bello ranks third all-time in career assists and fourth all-time in career aces.
Bello played for the Hawks in 2002 and 2003 garnering CUNYAC and NECVA All-Star honors in 2003. He currently ranks third all-time in career assists and fourth all-time in career aces. Bello graduated with a bachelor of science in physical education and also serves as the evening site supervisor for the Hunter Sportsplex.
