Hunter Recreation & Intramurals F.A.Q.

I'm broke and a gym membership is way too pricey, is there a gym at Hunter College?  How much will it cost me to use it?

There is a fitness center here at Hunter College.  As long as you are a current Hunter college student, faculty, or staff with a valid Physical Activity Card (PAC), there is no charge for any of the facilities and activities. Students from I.E.L.I., College NOW, Hunter High Schools, or enrolled in other summer or temporary programs are not eligible for PACs.

Any questions regarding eligibility can be directed to the Wellness Services Coordinator at 212.772.4800.

What is a PAC and how do I get one?

The PAC (Physical Activity Card) is a specific ID card that allows you to access the Hunter Recreation facilities at the 68th Street and Brookdale campuses during the scheduled hours of use. To obtain your PAC, go to the PAC section of this website and fill out the liability waiver.

NOTE: You no longer need a physical exam or medical form to obtain the standard PAC.

But why do I need a PAC?

Possession of a valid PAC assures us that you have read, and have signed, the Assumption of Risk and Waiver of Liability form  - We want to be sure that all patrons are aware of the risks and hazards associated with using athletic facilities and equipment before they participate in Hunter College athletic programs for recreational purposes. We recommend that you have a medical check-up and follow the advice of your own physician regarding participation in Recreational Athletic Activity.

I don't like to work out alone, can I bring a friend to work out with me?

You sure can! When available, yes, guest passes are available for $10.00 per day for those who do not attend Hunter College and/or do not have a valid PAC and/or Hunter College ID card.  A guest must be at least 18 years or older and must be accompanied by the sponsor (friend). Guest passes are required in all locations, they are not valid for intramurals or group fitness classes. See our policy and procedure section for all information regarding guest passes.
