Eric Metzger, a 2001 graduate of the University of Montana, was named head coach of Hunter men’s tennis program in February of 2009. In his first season, the Hawks were 12-4 overall with a 7-1 conference record and were runners-up in the CUNYAC Championship Tournament. He was also honored as the CUNYAC Coach of the Year, while five of his players earned postseason honors.
During the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Metzger guided his teams to the top of the CUNYAC, claiming the conference championship in both years. Their first titles since 1988. In 2010, they earned the program's first ever trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament and made the trip again the following year.. Additionally, during these two seasons, he's had six All-Stars, a Rookie of the Year and two Tournament MVP's.
Metzger has been teaching tennis in New York City since 2002 and works with Roosevelt Island Racquet Club's junior program.
At Montana, he played varsity tennis for the Grizzlies for four years, was named the Most Improved Player during his sophomore year and was team captain his senior year.
A native of Murtaugh, Idaho, Metzger now resides in New York.
