James Pompeo joins the Hawks after spending the past two seasons at Sage College of Albany as the head men's volleyball coach, where he earned 17 wins and guided three players to All-Skyline Conference honors.
Prior to Sage College, Pompeo spent his first collegiate season as an assistant coach at Kean University. While at Kean, Pompeo was primarily in charge of opponent scouting, recruiting and match preparation, while helping lead the team to a 26-8 record. Kean also assisted the Cougars to a Skyline Conference championship, as well as the program's first NCAA tournament victory.Â
Before joining a collegiate staff, Pompeo began his coaching career at Hillsborough High School, assisting the varsity coach and developing players that would later finish with a 20-5 record. He continued to coach at the high school level, most recently assisting at Niskayuna High School and leading the team to a program-best, 18-6 record.
Pompeo also spent the past year as the owner and club director of the Sporting Albany Volleyball Club, where he managed tournament schedules, rosters, budget, recruitment, player development, practice plans and travel.Â
As a member of the men's volleyball team at Kean University, Pompeo served as the team captain in 2011 and 2012. He helped lead the team to two Skyline Conference championships, recording 128 kills, 21 blocks and 225 digs.
Pompeo graduated from Kean University in 2013 with a B.A. in English.
