Bronx, NY – After getting rained out for a second time on Friday, the Hawks were able to make-up their original season opener on Sunday afternoon, defeating Lehman 9-0 to earn their eighth conference win of the season. The top seeded Hawks will now look towards Tuesday, October 23 when they host 8th seeded City Tech in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship Tournament at the USTA Center in Queens, NY.
The Hawks were led on Sunday's match by junior
Monica Calungcagin (Valley Cottage, NY/Nyack) who earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles. Senior
Sarah El-Edlibi (Queens, NY/Brooklyn Tech) stepped up her game with a 6-0, 6-0 win while competing at second singles for the first time this season.
El-Edlibi and
Calungcagin also teamed up for an 8-3 victory at first doubles.
The Hawks begin their quest towards an eighth straight conference championship on Tuesday with their quarterfinal match against City Tech with whom they defeated in the season opener, 9-0.
