DeLuca Scores Game High 19 Points In Season Opener

Amherst, MA – Junior forward Joseph DeLuca (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) scored a game high 19 points in his Hunter debut, but his along with the rest of the Hawks efforts would not be enough to overcome the defending NCAA Division III National Champion Amherst College who earn a 103-79 victory in the opening game of the Ken Wright Invitational hosted by Amherst.

Amherst had six individuals scoring in double-figures led by center Brandon Jones (Hopatcong, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Acad.) who scored a team high 15 points and Fletcher Walter (Ann Arbor, MI/Ann Arbor Pioneer) who recorded the games only double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

Also making his Hunter debut tonight, junior forward Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) scored 14 points and had five rebounds in 20 minutes of action off the bench. Junior guards Bobby Kiernan (Setauket, NY/Carle Place) and Lance Evans (Brooklyn, NY/East Hampton) rounded things out for Hunter with 11 points each.

The Hawks will look to rebound on Saturday when they play Purchase College who was defeated by Southern Vermont in the consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
