Riverdale, NY –First-year swimmer
Allyshia West (Owen Sound, ON/West Hills Secondary), who is a two-time CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year on the softball team, shattered a school record in the 100-yard backstroke that stood for over 20 years in her first collegiate meet on Saturday against Manhattan College at the Riverdale Country Day School in Riverdale, NY.
The previous record of 1:06.71 set by Kim Lonergan in the 1982-83 season, was broken by
West's time of 1:03.60. However, this was not the only event
West excelled in on Friday as she also took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.40.
The Hawks had a good overall showing against the Division I program, earning 81 points with three first place finishes including both of West 's times and freshman
Nicole Hracs (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) in the 1000-yard freestyle [12:21.51].
Hunter (0-1) opens up at home on Monday, November 19 when they host Queens College for a 6:00 p.m. meet at the Brookdale Campus Pool. The Hunter Brookdale Campus is located at 25th St. & 1st Ave.
