Poughkeepsie, NY – Sophomore guard
Shay Branch-el-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) highlighted the Hawks for the second straight game with a new career high of 19 points and added eight rebounds, but still wouldn't be enough to give the Hawks their first win as they fall 59-48 to the Brewers of Vassar College in non-conference women's basketball action Friday evening at the Athletic & Fitness Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.
After trailing by as much as seven points in the first,
Branch-el-Vielot would bring the Hawks to within one point on a made three pointer with 37 seconds left in the first half. Vassar then opened up the second half with a 14-5 run, pushing their lead to ten with 11:52 left to play.
Branch-el-Vielot would answer back, completing a shot from downtown to cut the lead to six, 39-33 with 8:38 left to go. Hunter would go on to trail by as much as 19, but kept fighting back and never quit as they finished the game on a 10-2 run to cut the margin down to 11.
The Brewers got a big contribution from sophomore forward
Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland) recording the games only double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds and also recorded a career high eight blocks.
Junior forward
Heidi Hallenbeck (Manhattan, NY/NYC Laboratory) had her best game fo the season, scoring 12 points and pulling down six boards, while senior forward
Brittany Jackolski (Shirley, NY/William Floyd) led the team with nine rebounds.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, December 4 when they head uptown to open up conference play against CCNY in the second game of a men's/women's double header at 7:00 p.m. at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY.
