Hawks Stumble On The Road, Fall 70-29 To Rutgers-Newark

Newark, NJ – Senior guard Sabrina Sanchez (Keasbey, NJ/Woodbridge) sparked a Scarlet Raider 16-0 run to start the game as the Hawks of Hunter College fall to Rutgers-Newark 70-29 in non-conference women's basketball action at the Golden Dome in Newark, NJ.

Sophomore guard Shay Branch-El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) was the higih scorer for Hunter with eight points and sophomore forward Andrea Buckham (Jamaica, NY/Flushing) pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sanchez finished with 11 points for Rutgers-Newark, while sophomore forward Renee Edwards (Montville, NJ/West Milford) led the Scarlet Raiders with 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench.

The Scarlet Raiders improve to 9-2 on the year, winning their third straight game, while the Hawks fall to 1-7 overall. Hunter returns to action on Thursday, January 3 when they travel to the Bronx, NY to face conference foe Lehman College for a 4:00 p.m. game at the APEX.
