New York, NY – Junior forward
Joseph DeLuca (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) scored a season high 24 points to give the Hawks an 89-77 victory in their conference opener against the Beavers of the City College of New York on Tuesday evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY.
CCNY got on the board first to take a 2-0 lead and after trading leads would take a four point lead at 12:04, but this would be the Beavers final lead of the game as the Hawks answered back with a three from senior forward
Gerard Ciarleglio (Bradenton, FL/Cardinal Mooney) and then a
DeLuca jumper with 9:41 left in the first put the Hawks up 23-21and they never looked back.
The Hawks held a 47-36 advantage at the intermission led by the combo of junior forwards
Michael Dodd (Jamaica, NY/Hillcrest) who scored 15 and
Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) who added 13 points and seven rebounds. Millen would go onto finish the game with 21 points and ten rebounds while Dodd scored 17 points, pulled down seven boards and also recorded five assists.
Senior guard
Taleek Norman (Bronx, NY) led the Beavers with a game high 28 points and senior forward
Franklin Canalies (New York, NY/TCI) added 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Tonight's victory improves the Hawks to 3-3 on the year and 1-0 in the CUNYAC, while the Beavers fall to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Hunter will return home on Friday, December 7 when they host the Bloodhounds of John Jay College at this year's Homecoming Celebration. Tip-off is set for 8:20 p.m.
