New York, NY – Junior forwards Michael Dodd (Jamaica, NY/Hillcrest) sparked a Hawk run and then helped put away the Bloodhounds with five consecutive free-throws in the final minute to give the Hawks their second straight CUNY Athletic Conference victory on Homecoming Night on Friday at the Hunter Sportsplex.

Despite leading for most of the first half, the Hawks would head into the intermission down 35-33. John Jay's Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY/Alfred E. Smith) scored the Bloodhounds first 11 points, but was limited to just 18 points on the night.

John Jay then opened up the second half with a 12-0 run to take a 47-33 lead, but the Hawks surmounted a comeback on a17-2 run to take a 50-49 lead, their first of the second half. The two teams would trade leads for next nine minutes, with neither team going up by more than three points.

Trailing 66-65 with 1:20 left in the game, the Hawks would score seven straight points, on from the charity stripe, icing the Bloodhounds and taking their final lead of the game. John Jay was held to just two points in the final 2:39 of the game, both coming on free-throws.

Despite early foul trouble, junior forward Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) led the Hawks in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Hawks had four of five starters finish in double-figures, Millen, Dodd with 14 points, senior forward Gerard Ciarleglio (Bradenton, FL/Cardinal Mooney) with 12 points and junior forward Joseph DeLuca (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) added ten points, six rebounds and five assists.

Tonight's victory improves the Hawks to 4-3 on the year and 2-0 in the conference and extends their win streak to three games, while John Jay drops their fourth straight to fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the CUNYAC.

Hunter returns to action on Monday, when they host the Devils of the College at Florham (FDU) for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match-up. The last time these two met, the Hawks earned a 74-71 victory behind 21 points from Ciarleglio on December 11, 2006.
