Jamaica, NY – Junior midfielder
Dwayne Bartholomew (Trinidad/El Dorado Secondary) scored his fifth career goal to give the Hawks an early 1-0 lead, but the Cardinals of York College would respond with five unanswered goals to earn a 5-1 victory in conference men's soccer action Saturday from the York Soccer Field in Jamaica, NY.
Trailing by one goal in the middle of the first half, the Cardinals got onto the board when freshman
Sergio Restrepo (Columbia /Bryant) headed a shot past the Hawks goalkeeper to even things up at 1-1. Then seven minutes later, junior
Paul Cardoza (Corona, NY/Campus Magnet) netted the game-winner on a penalty kick.
Caroza would also score the Cardinals third goal in the early minutes of the second half, stalling a Hawk comeback.
Senior keeper
Kafui Kouakou (Togo, Africa/CTC Ora Labora) faced 11 shots, making two saves and giving up the one goal. Junior
Noah Fessler (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) made just one save and allowed five goals after facing 11 shots.
Hunter will take the field again on Tuesday, September 18 when they host the Cougars of Medgar Evers College for a key CUNYAC match-up from the Metropolitan Oval in Queens, NY.
