Safiya Solomon (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) finished the day with 17 kills, 12 versus Baruch with a .706 hitting percentage and junior outside hitter/setter
Amanda Kamm (Dix Hills, NY/Hills West) tallied 23 assists, 12 kills and five aces as the Hawks defeated New York City Tech and Baruch College each in three games in a women's volleyball CUNY Athletic Conference Multi-Match Saturday afternoon at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, NY.
Coming off a hard fought 3-2 loss on Thursday, Hunter (4-4) jumped out of the gates early, defeating the Yellow Jackets 30-4 in the first game, then 30-9 and 30-14 in the second two games. In the second match of the day, the Hawks took it to their long time rival in Baruch, winning the first game 30-12 and the final two games 30-22.
Senior middle blocker
Yasmine Daniels (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) led the way in the Hawks match against City Tech, scoring nine kills with a .818 hitting percentage. Junior setter
Melissa Hernandez (Ridgewood, NY/Aviation) tallied 18 assists and added three kills.
In the second match against Baruch, the Hawks were led by
Solomon's efforts along with senior middle blocker
Shanita Scott (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) and
Kamm who each recorded nine kills. Sophomore
Lauren Auerbach (Tuscon, AZ/Salpointe Catholic) shifted positions and played libero against the Bearcats, leading Hunter with eight digs, while setters
Hernandez and
Kamm totaled for 29 assists.
Hunter returns to conference action on Tuesday, when they host the Bloodhounds of John Jay College for a 6:00 p.m. match at the Hunter Sportsplex.
