New York, NY – Competing in their toughest meet all season on Friday, the Hunter women's swimming team pulled out a victory in dramatic fashion, defeating Baruch College 50-45 in the battle of Lexington Ave and clinching the CUNY Athletic Conference regular season championship for the fourth year in a row.

Senior Allyshia West (Owen Sound, ON/West Hills Secondary) took first in a close 200 IM and then swam a conference best in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59:39. Then competing in the 100-yard breaststroke for the first time this season, West finished in 1:16.52 to earn a key win as it was the second to last event of the meet.

Senior Anna Plaunova (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) set a personal best in the 1000-yard freestyle as she took second place with a time of 12:44.16.

Competing in her first Hunter meet, sophomore Heather Alvord (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) won both events she competed in, recording a conference best in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.82 and came just a couple tenths of a second shy of breaking West's record in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:02.98.

Heading into the final event, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Hawks trailed 45-43 and were facing one of the best relay teams in the conference. However, the Hawks were able to pull through and beat out the Bearcats by a mere 19 tenths of a second to earn seven points and the victory.

Hunter improves to 4-3 overall and 4-0 in the conference, extending their win streak to four as well. Next up for the Hawks, they are scheduled to head to Patchogue, NY to face Saint Joseph's College in a non-conference meet that is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
