Hawks Upset Brooklyn On Home Court, 64-61

Brooklyn, NY – For the second straight game, sophomore forward Andrea Buckham (Jamaica, NY/Flushing) has scored 20 or more points, netting 23 and notched her fourth double-double of the season adding 14 rebounds to lead the Hawks to their second CUNY Athletic Conference win of the season, 64-61 over Brooklyn College in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY.

The two teams traded leads in the first, with the Hawks going up by six and then Brooklyn coming back to take a nine point lead and would carry a six point lead at the end of the half. The Bridges controlled the game for a majority of the second half until they watched a nine point lead diminish in the final minutes behind the play of freshman guard Michelle Gatti (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King), who scored six of her ten points during a 12-2 Hawk run. Hunter then sealed the victory at the free-throw line, sinking six-of-seven in the final minute of play.

Sophomore guard Shay Branch-El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) recorded her second straight double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Hawks. Senior guard Jaclyn Cavalcante (Brooklyn, NY /James Madison) was the high scorer for Brooklyn with 25 points and had four steals.

Hunter now improves to 2-2 in the conference and 2-9 on the year and will now prepare for a tough matchup on Monday against Montclair State who are currently 6-5 on the season and coming off a 22 points victory over Arcadia University. Monday's game is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. from Panzer Gymnasium in Upper Montclair, NJ.
