New York, NY – Junior forward
Joseph DeLuca (Maspeth, NY/Christ the King) scored a team high 18 points and shot 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, but foul trouble plagued the Hawks throughout the game as they slip to the Camels of Connecticut College 82-63 in non-conference men's basketball action at the Hunter Sportsplex on Monday evening.
Trailing by just a bucket after a back and forth first half, the Hawks would regain the lead, 44-43, on a made free-throw by
DeLuca with 15:19 left in the game. However, their lead would not last long as the Camels would start a 15-1 run to a lead that they would never relinquish, handing Hunter it's second loss in as many games.
Connecticut was led on offense by senior
Charles Stone (Hackensack, NJ/Hotchkiss) who scored a game high 22 points, the 6-6 center also pulled down eight boards. The tandem of senior forward
Jeff Young (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford) and junior guard
Billy Karis (Potsdam, NY/Worcester Academy) tortured the Hawks with proficiency from beyond the arc, sinking nine of the ten three-pointers made by the Camels. Young finished with 18 points, 4-of-7 from downtown, while Karis had 15 on 5-of-7 shooting from long distance.
Junior guard
Lance Evans (Brooklyn, NY/East Hampton) cashed in his second best game of the season with 15 points and eight rebounds, while junior forward
Frantz Millien (Rockland, NY/North Rockland) contributed with ten points and three assists.
Hunter returns to action on Friday, January 11 when they host the College of Staten Island for a doubleheader of CUNY Athletic Conference action. The men's game is set for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off which will then be followed by the women's team against the Dolphins at 7:00 p.m.
